Agribusiness is the business of agriculture, it is a broad term used to denote the business side of agricultural production. This paper explores key business concepts along the agricultural value chain, which typically involves production, processing, marketing and trade. There is a broad discussion within the paper of the emerging need for agribusiness systems to minimise their adverse effects on the environment, while encouraging social sustainability. The paper also aims to develop skills in the use of key tools applied broadly within agribusiness management.

This paper is taught through lectures and discussion.

The lectures in AGBUS101 are based around five core themes. These are:

  1. Agribusiness systems
  2. Agricultural production and society
  3. Processing of agricultural products
  4. Development and marketing of agricultural products
  5. Agricultural trade
